Our Story

With the new trend toward greener living, reclaimed wood is rapidly becoming a sought-after commodity. Beyond its environmental impact, reclaimed wood's rich patina and weathered character offer consumers a distinctive and signature product that is truly one of a kind.

In the past, however, builders seeking reliable sources of reclaimed wood have often been confronted with limited supplies and unusable wood dimensions that cannot conform to specific needs.

Turning House Millworks fills this industry gap. We are committed to providing a continuous supply of old growth, reclaimed wood that can be milled to custom specifications. We secure our lumber from old buildings found along the Appalachian Mountain corridor, primarily in the American Southeast.

In most cases, our team is involved in every step of the reclamation process—from locating and deconstructing appropriate sources of vintage wood, to milling, grading and cutting these rare species, and, finally, to distributing this top-quality product to architects, builders and consumers. Managing every aspect of the process not only ensures that we provide you with the best product possible; it also allows us to offer stable pricing and a continuous, reliable supply of rare vintage wood.

What Sets Us Apart

Steady, reliable supply
The first building Turning House Millworks reclaimed yielded more than one million board feet of lumber. Such a high yield is due, in part, to our signature deconstruction process, which maximizes the number of reusable resources we are able to preserve and reclaim.

Stable wholesale pricing
Turning House Millworks acquires buildings that have been slated for deconstruction by their communities, allowing us to reclaim every reusable resource—not just wood, but also bricks, copper, hardware, steel and any other materials for which there is an existing market. We have found this to be the most cost-efficient reclamation method, and as a result, we are able to pass the cost-savings on to our customers.

Rare, hard-to-find species
Turning House Millworks offers a number of rare, vintage wood species, many of which are no longer commercially available. Visit the Vintage Wood section to view our current inventory.

Custom orders
Turning House Millworks invests in the latest equipment and technology to fulfill special custom orders.

Environmental sustainability
Reclaimed wood is an eco-friendly building material. Using vintage wood from Turning House Millworks means you will be lessening the demand for newly cut trees as well as preserving the integrity and rich history of wood that is often as much as a century old.
